There are however certain rules that are applied:
- There is no global acceptance of every
application. Each insurance proposal for those under the age
of 25 is individually assessed on it's
own merits.
- Car drivers and
motorbike riders with convictions will not be considered.
- Car drivers and
motorbike riders with previous claims will not be considered.
- Insurance will not
be agreed for drivers and riders under the age of 25 if the proposal
is to include a large or powerful car or bike.
- The insurance
company may, at it's discretion impose certain restrictions on a
policy. These can include restricting the number of passengers
the young driver is permitted to carry
- Quads will not be
accepted.
For guidance, a young
person with no claims or convictions, with one or two years practical
driving experience and proposing to drive a 1200cc car or 50cc scooter
has a good chance of having the proposal accepted. There are of
course other factors that would be looked at but the initial approach is
a sensible one.
On the other hand, a
young person with no claims or convictions, with one or two years
practical driving experience and proposing to drive a car of 2000cc or
higher or 250cc scooter is highly likely to have the proposal declined. |
